This piece, a vibrant experiment in Pointillism, captures Mondrian at a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution. Born in 1872 in Amersfoort, Netherlands, Mondrian's journey through the art world was marked by a relentless pursuit of purity and harmony, ultimately leading to his development of Neoplasticism.

In "Apple Tree, Pointillist Version," Mondrian employs the meticulous technique of Pointillism, a method characterized by the application of small, distinct dots of color. This approach, pioneered by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, allows for a luminous interplay of light and color. Mondrian's choice to depict an apple tree reflects his fascination with nature, a theme prevalent in his early work. However, his philosophical approach is evident in the way he abstracts the natural form, hinting at his later rejection of representational art.

This piece is significant as it marks Mondrian's transition from Impressionism and Symbolism towards abstraction. The painting's genre is Post-Impressionism, and its subject matter, though rooted in nature, is treated with an analytical eye. Currently, the original is housed in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag in The Hague, serving as a crucial link in understanding Mondrian's artistic trajectory and his contribution to modern art.

Printed to order on canvas and set in a natural wood floater frame.
